About the Author
Dr. Peter J. Brews stepped down as dean of the Darla Moore School of Business (DMSB) in December 2022 after 9 years in office and left academic life as Dean Emeritus in December 2023. His role is now as author, keynote speaker, and teacher/consultant.
A naturalized American who lived half his life in a struggling South Africa, he deeply understands nation building and economic competitiveness from both developing and developed country perspectives. For over 35 years he has educated executives and business students about business in the diverse contexts of international commerce, and his award-winning and thought-provoking classes have been offered in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. His teaching excellence is recognized by four leading business schools, one based in South Africa and three in the United States. He is also recognized for his scholarly work.
His professional career started in investment banking and soon moved into higher education, where while earning graduate degrees in law and business and two PhDs, he taught business law, economics, finance, corporate strategy, and international business and conducted research at three leading universities: the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Duke University, and UNC-Chapel Hill. His accomplishments include being a world-class researcher/teacher and academic entrepreneur in the proposal and leadership of innovative educational programs, and being transformative leader of the DMSB 6,400-student strong premier academic brand of the University of South Carolina.
